Color Theory ::: Vintage Surf

Montauk is on my mind as the time draws nearer to summer when we’ll be heading out to the East End for a much needed vacation. Last year about this time, our friend Camilla showed us The Endless Summer, the 1966 classic film about the hunt for the perfect wave. Camilla & the Perfect wave editorial team published the first issue of Perfect Wave magazine on the GreenerMags platform with the title inspired by the film. Endless Summer also happened to be screening at The Surf Lodge last summer during our visit. Ever since seeing the film, the surf journals of Tony Caramanico at Clic Gallery, and the collaged Montauk surfing photographs in Peter Beard’s book, I’ve been smitten with the look of vintage surf culture.

    The bottom right hand photo is one that I shot in Florida. It is a polaroid transfer. I actually just did the decor for the surf lodge this summer. Check out my site for all of my work

      thanks jennifer! yes, eternal sunshine was filmed in montauk. we love it out there so much! it’s so gorgeous, yet chill compared to the other posh hampton towns. the surf lodge is a great outdoor bar. hope you have a great weekend too!

    You always have the best little montages of photos. So beautiful. I kind of want to go to Hawaii at this very moment and learn how to surf

    What a great collage you’ve put together. From the title to the wonderful shots, you’ve really captured the whole 60s surf culture – what a fabulous flash from the past!!
